CITIZENS RAISE 30 MILLIONS. [United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] (Received this day at 9.40 a.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 26. A group of Chicago’s wealthiest citizens, disturbed by the comment all over the world on the seriousness of Chicago’s plight, agreed to raise among themselves, thirty million dollars as a temporary loan to the city, exclusively for the purpose of paying employees, purchasing coal supplies for hospitals and public institutions, and maintaining other abisolutejly essential services The City Council made an appeal to this group for fifty million dollars, but the latter disallowed the request for the larger sum.
