RIVER TRAGEDY
BATHER. STRIKES BOTTOM. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 26. While bathing with half a dozen other young men in the Hutt River to-day, about half way between Mailing Bridge, and the old bridge, at -/ Lower Hutu, Robert Arthur Woodham, a young man, aged 19 years, lost his life through drowning. Woodham resided with his parents at No. 6 Hutt Road, and was ,a plumber’s apprentice. The accident took place at 12 30 p.m. and it is supposed that he must have struck his head either on the river bed' or on some submerged object, which rendered him. unconscious. He was removed from tim water in a very short space of time, and was subsequently attended to by Dr B. J. Dudley, of Lower Hutt. All attempts at resuscitation, * however, proveßin vain, and life was pronounced extinct.. An inquest will he held.
