WANGANUI SMASH
TWO KILLED IN A CAR. . (By Telegraph—Press Association). WANGANUI, Jan. 26. A motor accident occurred here just before 8.30 on Saturday night, resulting in the deaths of two people, namely, Aliss Alma Joyce Crothers, single, aged 20 years, a domestic, and Air Michael Connelly, butcher, employed by the Imlay Freezing Works. The deceased, with, three others, were passengers■ in a. car driven by George Glenn, a car salesman. The vehicle was being driven along Bell Street, in the direction of St. John’s, and on the Ingestre Street intersection it met d three-seater car passing along Ingestre Street towards the parently, to avoid a collision, Glenn’s car swerved. It somersaulted, strik- , ing the posts of a disused grocery * shop. The woman Crothers was killed in- * stantly, while Connelly expired at the hospital just after 11 p.m. The car knocked down three verandah posts and came to rest with the wheels Uppermost. ■. The other-passengers were taken to the hospital, but were found to be suffering minor injuries, and were discharged. Those 'in the three-seater vehicle, driven by a man named Palmer, of the .Palmerston North district, were not hurt. A slight collision resulted between the two cars, and the steering of the three-seater was affected. Miss Crothers had been a resident of Wanganui only for some weeks. \ Her people reside in Manunui. The late Air Connelly’s people are in Ashburton.
