GREYMOUTH, Jan. 24. The swimming championships opened this morning in dull weather. 50 yards girls junior championship, first heat—D. Smith (Ashburton) 1,; Strong (Auckland)' 2. Also started' Rodges (South Canterbury), M. House; (Wellington). A .close finish. Time 35 secs.
Second heat.—D. Rafnly (Auckland) 1, M. Sutherland (South Canterbury)' 2. Also started: Olds (Otago), Low (Canterbury).!. Won easily. Time 35 2-5 secs.
100 yards men’s championship, first heat.—Bridson (Auckland) 1, Moorhouse (Canterbury) 2, Bolam (Canterbury) 3. . Won by yards. Time 58 2-5. Second heat.—Stokes (Canterbury) 1, Claridge (Wellington) 2, Enwright (Auckland) 3. Won by two feet, Time 62 1-5 secs.
220 yards boys intermediate championship, first heat.—R. Gillate (Wellington) 1, J. O. Hattersley (Canterbury) Also started: M. Redman (Hawke’s Bay), M. Souten (South Canterbury). Time 2.55 4-5 secs. Second heat.—E. McConville (Canterbury) 1, A. Thomas (Auckland) 2. The only starters. Time 2.50 3-5.
