COMPULSORY CONFERENCE FAILS. (Australian Press Association) MELBOURNE, Jan. 21. A compulsory coal conference presided over by Judge Beeby in the Arbitration Court as failed. Mr McDonald (chairman of Northern Colliery proprietors) definitely refused Mr Scullin’s proposals for a settlement. The conference was summoned following the application by the federation, after the new log had been served on the employers and when it failed, Judge Beeby ordered the matter to be brought before the Court.
