AUCKLAND HOSPITAL
NAVAL REQUEST REJECTED. [By Telegraph, Per Press Association.j AUCKLAND, Jan. 21. The Auckland Hospital Board’s decision not to provide private accommodation for the Officers of the Royal Navy was reaffirmed at a meeting to-day. A letter was received from the Director-General of Health, Dr T. H. A. Valintine, stating that the Navy was prepared to pay increased fees for the private accommodation, as it was not ill the interests of discipline to have the Naval Officers and men in the same Hospital quarters. “No question of payment need enter into the matter,” said Mr Savage. “It is just a question of a public institution where everyone is entitled to.. equal treatment. We would be establishing a precedent and there is no reason why we should alter our previous decision on this matter.” The Chairman, Mr W. Wallace, said that the Wellington Hospital Board had refused to grant private accommodation. It was resolved to write to the Director-General, saying that the matter could not be reconsidered.
