KILLED BY FALLING STONE. An accident which had a fatal effect occurred yesterday afternoon alongside the iroad- between Nelson Creek and Bell Hill, the victim being Mr Jplin Wright, a roadman in tho employ of the Grey County Council. The’*actual scene of the .accident wag at the foot of a hillside at the point • known as “The Dardanelles,” about 1 half way between Bell Hill and Nelson Creek, where at the time of the big earthquake a slip was caused. The deceased, together with Messrs Lou, Morgan and Alason, were engaged in removing the debris from the foot of the slip yesterday. At about 4 o’clock Alorgan noticed a stone break loose from the top of the slip, which was about one hundred and- fifty feet above them, and he called to" Wright to look out, but, unfortunately, the direction in which he jumped to get clear took, him directly into the lina\ of the stone’s descent, and it strvu?k‘ v him upon the top of: the jhead. He was : . rendered unconscious, by what proved to be a fatal fracture of the skull. At once his mates had him conveyed to the Grey Hospital, but it was evident that his injury : was fatal, and about 8 o’clock last night he succumbed to the effects of it. The late Air Wright, who was fiftytwo years of age, had been in the employ of the County Council for about fourteen months, and previously resided at Blackball, but latterly at Bell Hill. He had no relatives in the Dominion.
