Mrs Mastcrman, widow of the late Right Hon. C. F. G. Mastcrman. who was a member of the l last Liberal Cabinet, and a noted writer, has been lecturing on how to encourage modern poets. She related that a young man walked into a Loudon newspapci office on a wet evening, with the water squelching from his boots, and the soles parting from the uppers, and he asked +r > be given some book reviewing. He was allowed to take a book. Some hours later, lie returned. with the copy which the Editor of l.lio paper accepted. Lingering for a minute, the youth asked d ho could have immediate payment. When asked his name, he replied, “John Masefield.”
