TWO PASSENGERS INJURED. ON YESTERDAY’S EXCURSION. The pleasure of yesterday s excursion arranged by the Railway Department from Hokitika to Arthur’s Pass, which was patronised by approximately 130 / persons, was marred on the return journey by an accident which befel two of the excursionists, says the Grey “Argus.’’ The accident occurred just over the Teremakau bridge on the western side of Jackson. It appears that the wiud had moved a railway workers’s hut from its position on an embankment to within dose proximity of the line. As the engine passed the windscreen came into contact with the obstruction, but unfortunately two passengers, Miss Muriel Cochrane, of Cobden, and Air Frank Thomas, of Kotuku, each had an arm protruding from their carriage, and received severe injuries, as, a result of being struck by the hut. f The extent of Mi s s Co cbt;an e’ s injuries was a double fracture ,of the arm : above the elbow. * • Air Thomas received' a badly lacerated wound to his arm. Upon arrival at the Greymouth Railway Station, both sufferers were attended by Dr Ray, following which they-were immediately taken to hospital in the ambulance. At a late hour last night, it was not ascertainable as to whether the arm of Mr Thomas could be saved..
