AUCKLAND, Jan. 15
The Education Board considered today a protest by th.e Te Aroha District School Committee against the appointment of a married woman as assistant on the grounds that the applicant was the wile of the headmaster and that there was so much unemployment in the teaching profession.
The senior inspector said that he had no alternative hut to recommend the appointment, as the woman concerned had the highest grading niaiks of any applicant. In the course of the discussion, it was stated that the husband was drawing a salary of £460 per annum.
Speakers generally supported the protest. The board decided to place the question before the Department, recommending that the Act he amend ed in fairness to single women in the profession. The teacher concerned i» to be notified of the opposition to her appointment.
