TWO YOUTHS

GO BREAKING AND ENTERING.

[By Telegraph, Per Press Association.] CARTERTON, January 16. Two youths,, apparently moved with a spirit of adventure have caused quite a ,stir in Pirinoa district. On Friday night, they allegedly took two bicycles; from the outside of a local picture theatre and decamped. It was thought they would immediately leave the district, but apparently had other plans, for when, S. Antony, residents on McLean’s Matawhero property returned home on Sunday, he found his residence had been broken into, and a rifle, cartridges and supply of canned foods taken. On making investigations, Antony found tracks leading some distance up the river. On Saturday night another local resident Mr Piripi of Kohunui, had a rifle and axe removed from his premises. 1 Late on Sunday night two rifle shots were fired over another dwelling in the vicinity. The incident considerably startled and alarmed the occupants. Two youths were seen at midday on Monday by several children. A large number of residents under direction of Constable Sleeth of Martinborough are scouring the district, with the object of apprehnding the culprits. The younger of the two youths alleged to be concerned is a European and his companion is a Maori. Both are out on license. Up to a late hour last’night no trace of the missing boys, had been found.
