A CENTENARY.
OF SAMUEL -MARSDEN’S LANDING
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)
WAIMATE ft ORTH, January 13
A scene of historic interest took place yesterday when the centenary of the foundation of the first inland mission in New Zealand was celebrated, and a lych-gate in memory of Samuel Marsden and pioneer Missionaries was unveiled.
The Primate officiated, assisted by Bishop Bennett (the first Maori Bishop), and twenty-six clergy, seventeen of them Maoris, took part in the Church service and communion in the open air, in the morning and a very impressive unveiling of the lych-gate in the afternoon.
A Maori welcome was given later and a service in the evening when Bishop Bennett preached.
