AUCKLAND, Jan, 9

Groping through smoke, a family residing in Swan Road, Mount Roskill, escaped’"ifrom a blazing house in the early hours of the morning. The house was owned and occupied by G. D. Pooley. There were also sleeping on the premises Mrs Pooley, three sons and six daughters. One daughter aroused by the fire, awakened her father' and two brothers who enabled all to escape after throwing a few clothes on, Air Pooley carrying out the two youngest children, just as the building was fully ablaze. The insurances are: House £I2OO in the New Zealand, furniture £2OO in Liverpool, London and Glolie.
