LAUNCH’S SAFE ARRIVAL. EXPERIENCE OF CREW. (Australian Press Association) BRISBANE, Jan. 9. 1 lie launch “Euphemia” with ten Lairns men and two natives on hoard, ior whose safety fears were.entertained, arrived safely at Cairns. The launch was caught in a. severe storm on Saturday night when the anchor was dropped on Scott’s reef. A native hoy named Pedro, fearing the anchor would not hold, dived into the mountainous seas and secured the anchor to the reef. He then stood watch throughout tiie night.
dlie owner, Jorgenson, said that nothing but the devotion and magnificent seamanship of Pedro saved us from death.
the lugger, “Spray,” became a total wreck early on Saturday a short distance from where.the “Euphemia” was anchored.
HEAVY RAIN CONTINUES BRISBANE, Jan. 9. Heavy rain continues in Northern Queensland. All railway traffic is interfered with. The Tally River has overflown its hanks, and the water is spreading over the countryside. Water on the Bellenden Plains is six feet deep over the railway lines. The Herbert River is ten feet*over tlie railway bridge.
