MAN SUICIDES
ON WEDDING DAY
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WANGA’NUI, Jan. 7. Arthur Osborne Smith, retail furniture dealer, who resides with his fath-er-in-law at 19 Young Street, Wanganui East, was found in the bathroom this afternoon with his throat cut. A razor was discovered nearby. Smith, who was 29 years of age, appeared to b e quit© normal yesterday, hut just after his father-in-law, Samuel Priest, left the house for the time being, sounds of struggling were heard. Priest returned hastily, and on arrival at the bathroom, found Smith as stated. Constable Wallace and Dr Douglas Wilson were summoned, hut the unfortunate man was dead. Deceased was to have beeii married to-day, but there was a last-minute hitch in the arrangements. He was a widower, his wife having died some years ago. When the War broke out he was keen to serve with the colours and loft New Zealand with the 29th (Reinforcements, seeing service i» France. He was under 18 yours of age when lie went into camp. Since his return lie was engaged in the retail furniture .business.„
