THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
AN INDUSTRY MENACED. As reported in another column, the Commissioner of Forests, Sir Francis' Dillon Bell, at Hokitika formulated a startling device to hamper our second most important industry. This is nothing less than a statement that every sawmiller working Crown Land, as soon as his present sawmill license is exhausted, which may be in three months or three years, will he granted a new r sawmill license only on the condition that no timber shall be exported beyond New Zealand.—“ Grey River Argus,” July 2nd. 1919.
