BRITISH FINANCE
DEFICIT PROBABLE,
[United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph,—Copyright. J (Received this day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. T. Exchequer returns for nine months of the Budget year show the revenue was 418 millions sterling, a decrease of eighteen millions and expenditure 558 millions, an increase of seventeen millions.' The “Financial News” says it is •painfully evident that Mr Snowden will need an unexampled resiliency of revenue if thq Budget is to balance. The national accounts show a deficiency of revenue for Lliree--quar-ters of the year of £169,797,00!) compared with £137,770,000 for a ■similar period last year and £159,250,000 two years ago. Admitting the final quarter always goes far to correct the ultimate balance, the editorial is of opinion that a substantial deficit on the year is inevitable. It is extremely difficult to see how new taxation can be avoided, which cannot further trade or employment.
