RACING ACCIDENTS
TANE KILLED
A casualty; unique in the annals of West Coast racing history, occurred during the running of the Greymouth Cup yesterday, when Mr j. Behan's Tane met with an injury, necessitating it being destroyed. The accident happened half way up the straight, when another runner smashed against the rails. The impact caused a lail to break loose, and Tane, which was running close behind, was impaled on the rail. It was found necessary to destroy the horse. The rider,' G. Barr, sustained bodily injuries, he being conveyed to the Grey Itivoi Hospital. Tane was a four year old gelding by King Mark —Valerie, end had shown good promise in its starts on the Coast. It won a division in the Malden Handicap at Hokitika, and was i-c-spoil si hie for a sterling performance at Omoto on Saturday, when it ran Booster to a head ! n the Borough Handicap. .:u.no to grief when negotiating a hurdle, fortunately without injury to horsemen or horses. In the Blaketown Handicap Kentish Lady fell at the turn into the back straight, but her jockey, 11. Cox, did not sustain any serious injuries.
