A YACHT RACE

UNDER STORM CONDITIONS. (Australian Press Association) (Received this day at 11 a.m.) LAUNCESTON, Dec. 30. After a gruelling struggle of 42 iiours, mostly spent in a howling gale, the Victorian yacht Oimara won the race across Bass Strait. She was followed five' hours later by the Shamrock. Up to a late hour last night there was no news of the Wanderer and Why 11 is, two other contestants. Maysie, another starter, had to return lo a western port shortly after the start. When the boats left Queensciiffe the sea was worked up with a wind of nearly force. Both missing vessels have auxiliary engines and it is hoped they will reach tne tasnianian coast to-day.

THE MISSING YACHTS. LAUNCESTON, Dec. 30. The missing yacht Wanderer was last seen under bare poles, off The Hummocks by the navigator of the Shamrock. The Phyllis has not been seen since 7.30 on Friday night. The Wanderer has a crew of six. The Maysie was totally disabled 40 miles off the heads,of Port Philip Bay and was blown by the gale into Western Port. The vessel was strippe practically to the deck line. The crew was utterly exhausted after 36 hours battle with the elements.
