Portuguese artillery mutinied at Monte Fort, Macao, on Sunday evening. At a preconcerted signal lour'fortresses were to have mutinied and seize the town, but only one tort acted. One hundred and twenty men, led by a disaffected sergeant, ejected their officers and held two sergeants as hostages. On Monday morning the Macao Government sent an ultimatum to the mutineers, giving them twentyfour hours in which to surrender. This morning the Government forces fired on the fort, employing artillery and machine guns. Half an hour later all had surrendered. The damage and the casualties are unknown.

All foreign residents in China are at present enjoying extra-territorial privileges. After January Ist the} 7 will he subject to the laws promulgated by the Chinese Government, according to an announcement issued by the Foreign Minister, Mr Wang. The decision which was long anticipated was reached at an emergency meeting of the C en t ral Political Council, which decided to issue an official mandate abolishing ex-tru-territorialty, though it was previously acknowledged by Wang it was impossible to enforce it until the Powers agreed to the principle.
