FATAL INJURIES. B Telegraph—Press Assn., Copyright AUCKLAND, Dec. 24. A telegraph messenger, Harry Vereoe, aged 16, when riding a cycle at Hclensvillo, rode into a parked car, and suffered injuries from which he died within a few hours. SUDDEN DEATH. MAItTON, Dec. 24. John Edward Bernard Hansen, a married man, aged 72, dropped dead as a result of heart failure. MAN ARRESTED. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 26. A man was arrested in Peterborough St. last night and charged with assaulting a girl about seventeen years of age. A number of passers-by witnessed the occurrence, and there was an angry demonstration against the man concerned. He was arrested by detectives and saved from a possible mauling. NEARLY DROWNED. AUCKLAND, December 26. A report that -Mr Jenkins, 51 .P., had his arm broken while lie was cranking the engine on his launch is incorrect. He had jumped from a jetty to the deck of a small fishing boat, returning to his yacht, as a low tide would not allow the dinghy to get alongside the jetty. He. slipped on the deck, fell in to the water, and was rendered almost unconscious. Two members of his party swam to his assistance. He was hoisted to the jetty with difficulty, it nd was removed to the hospital. He did not recover consciousness until artificial respiration was used for over half an hour. .MOTOR COLLISION. PALMERSTON N. Dec. 26. Somersaulting twice, a light twoseater car landed on its wheels on the footpath, after being' struck by n. heavy car, at the corner of Fitzherbert and College Streets. H. Doyle of Feildiug was the driver of the heavy ear, and L. Smith of Napier was driver of the light car. The occupants were uninjured, hut the light car was practically wrecked. CARRIER HURT BY -MOTOR. DUNEDIN, December 26. James Thomson, carrier of Baidu tha, sustained a severe cut on the bead and had a small bone at tbe back of the neck broken, in a collision with a motor car on Tuesday evening. He was standing up in a spring waggon when it was crashed into by a car. Thomson being precipitated on to the roadway.
