CHICAGO MURDERS

LONG LIST UNSOLVED

(United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Received this day at noon.) VANCOUVER, Dec. 23. One hundred and thirteen murders have not been solved in Chicago this year. A significant feature is that in not one outstanding gang slaying have the murderers been brought to justice/ Even when the murderer is convicted at great expense it is difficult to keep him in gaol. Criminals sentenced to death are granted new trials and meantime witnesses disappear either permanently or during the retrial and the murderer is set free. Jurymen fear to serve as they and their families are threatened with death if they find against the defendant.
