Alt AIIUR A CHRISTMAS SALE.

Weather conditions were most unfavourable at yesterday’s Araliura •market. Notwithstanding there was a large attendance of buyers and a record yarding of stock for a Christmas sale. 87 lambs, 206 sheep and 127 cattle were penned and cleared, and what must be considered satisfactory .prices for this period of the year.

Prices showed little or no decline for prime medium weight bullocks and tlieie was a keen demand for suet cows and heifers. The range of prices was as follows: Heavy ox 45s to. 47s 6d, (medium weight to (495, prime heifers 46s to 47s 6d, heavy cows 42s to 455. Sheep sold on a par with Addington prices, wethers making to 33s or old per lb. Owing to flooded rivers the advertised entry of lambs was not forthcoming. Those entered sold well. A pen from Mr W. 01 derog’s farm, Araliura, topped the market at 31s 9d. W. Jeffries and Co. sold as follows :

Sheep.—On account of TJ. Meharry 25 fat ewes (shorn) at 28s; on account of A. Baillie 30 fat wethers at 335, 32 at 32s 6d, 60 at 325, 8 at 2U Gd; on account of a client 80, 4-toot., sttfbe wethers at 31s. Lambs.—On account of W. Olderog 10 lambs at 31s 9d; on account of T. O’Neil 15 lambs at 295.

Cattle.—On account of Perry and Co. 2 bullocks at £l6 2s 6d, 1 at £l6 7s Od, 4 at £ls 7s 6d, 4 at £l4 17s Gd, 2 at £l3 17s 6d, 2 cows at £ll 2s Gd, 2 at £l3 2s 6d, 1 at £l4 12s 6d; on account of W. Berry 1 heifer at £l6 17s 6d; on account of M. Keenan 2 cows at £9 7s 6d, 1 at £.ll 12s 6d, 2 at £9 17s Gd, 2 at £6 2s 6d, 1 vealer at £3 15s; on account of W. Graham 3 cows at £9 17s 6d, 1 at £lO 2s 6d, 1 at £7 2s 6d, 2 at £ll 12s 6d, 1 steer at £8 17s 6d, 1 vealer at £5 17s 6d, 4 heifers at £8 17s 6d, 2 at £9 7s .od, 2 at £9 12s Gd, 2 at £7 17s Gd, 2at £7 2s Gd; on account of H. Reynolds 2 cows at £l2 17s Gd 2 at £ll 2s Gd, 2 at £lO 17s Gd, 2 at £lO 2s Gd, 1 cow at £9 7s Gd; for Harihari client (privately) 6 fat cows at £6.

ADDINGTON STOCK SALE. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 18. Beef—There was a large yarding of fat cattle. Although easier in places, tue general tone was firm, there being no market again for three weeks. Heavy prime steers sold to £22 17s 6<l, prime £l7 to £l9 15s, medium £l6 to £l7 ss, light £ll 10s to £l4. Prime heavy heifers sold from £l3 10s to £ls, prime £ll os to £l3 15s, medium £9 5s to £lO 10s, plain from £8 os. Extra heavy prime cows sold to £l7 2s . Gd, prime' £lO 10s to £l2 10s, mediuni.. £8 os to £9 10s, plain £6 -5s to £7 os, inferior from £5. Eat sheep—There was a large yarding of fat sheep. Values were easier, especially for aged ewes and light sorts. Extra prime wethers sold to 34s lOd, prime oos to 325, medium 27s to 295, light 25s to 26s 6d, inferior from 20s, extra prime ewes sold to 30s, prime 24s to 26s Gd, medium 21s Gd to 235, light 19s to 21s, inferior from 15s. Fat lambs—There was a large yarding of fat lambs, and a satisfactory sale, the exporters operating fairly freely. Many lots showed a lack of finish The best prime lambs sold to 31s Gd, prime 27s Gd to 30s, medium 25s to 275, light from 225. - Store sheep—There were about five 1 thousand store sheep yarded, practically all being ewes, lambs and wethers. The quality was poor. Competition was good for the most attractive pens. Otherwise the demand was irregular. Pigs.—There was a large yarding of pork. Values were easier at the commencement of the sale, but hardened as the sale progressed. There was a medium yarding of bacon ers. The demand was good. Best choppers sold from £4 10s to £5 18s 6d ; others from 355; medium bacon £3 12s to £4; heavy £4 ss; to £4 15s; extra heavy to £5 6; average price perpound, 7d to Bd. Medium porkers sold from 43s to 50, heavy 55s to 60s Cd ; average price 7) to 8)d. Store pigs were easier.
