HUTT ELECTION
FINAL RALLIES.

WELLINGTON, Dec. 16. With the approach of the date of the Hutt bye-election, which will take place on Wednesday, the campaigns of three candidates are drawing to a close. Although, the electorate is a compact one, a very large number of meetings has been held, some of the most prominent members of the respective parties taking 'the platform! To-night Hon H. Atmore addressed a meeting at Petone, and to-morrow four Ministers Messrs Atmore, Coobey Forbes and Veitch, will speak in support of Mr J. Kerr, the United Party’s nominee. Mr Coates lias taken a prominent part in the campaign of the Reform candidate, Mr H. F. Johnston, while the Hon. W. D. Stewart has'also delivered several speeches. All the more prominent members of the Labour Party have worked for Mr W. Nash, including Wellington Members of Parliament, the Leader, Mr Holland, and H. T. Armstrong, while Mr P. Fraser has organised the campaign. The candidates’ committees'disbanded before the week-end. ; To-night Sir Joseph Ward issued" a final statement to the electors, ’ claiming that the Government within the limited time during which they* have been in office, have, in spite of economic difficulty, made substantial progress in carrying out the polity wliidh lie enunciated prior to the General Election. Remarking that nobody desires a general election, heargues that, the Government should have' an opportunity to complete its work.
