Electric Telegraph.4-Copy right,] LONDON, December 14, As the, outcome of fifteen days’ trial, one of the most costly of recent times, estimated at fifteen thousand sterling, Hayley Morriss, of Sussex, a millionaire, who was the centre of a sensational trial early in December of 1927, j lost his case, in which be sued a firm of solicitors who formerly acted for him, for negligence and breach of duty in connection with certain divorce proceedings against his former wife. Mr Justice Hoi-ridge, in summing up, declared that if the evidence were true, Morriss was then ° consummate liar; “although,” lie added, “it was quite true that a man may commit crimes of a sexual character so horrible that they shock even people whom it- is difficult to shock, he might still be speaking truth.” The judge added that Morriss’ crimes were, so appalling that the Lord Chief Justice, when Morriss had appealed against his sentence in connection with girls, said it was the most appalling case of the kind within the recollection of the court. I lie jury said His Honour, was entitled to take this into account in this ease. Applause greeted the jury’s verdict.
