ANTI-GOD CAMPAIGN

ENGLISH PROTEST MOVEMENT. (United Press Association-—By Electric Telegraph-Copyright). LONDON, December 15. The archbishop of Canterbury,' in a letter to Prebendary Gough, has declined the Presidency of the Protest Committee against the persecution of Christians in Russia, under the policy of the Soviet Government. The refusal of the Archbishop to lead the Committee, he explains, is due to the fact that his own position is one of peculiar difficulty and responsibility. He says that lie shares in the fullest measure the detestation of the antireligious policy of the Soviet. He remarks that indignations is justly being aroused against the persecution oif all who profess any form of religion in Russia. The Bishop of London, Dr Igram, in a letter, states: “I am in favour of a British Ambassador,.going to Russia as this is the only way of letting daylight into that country,, but I consider that a continuance of British relations with Russia should he conditional on a cessation of the massacre. of Christians and the proscription of religion. I will remain on the, Pretest Committee only as long as the movement is one of a.religious nature, and is not used for political purposes.”
