DROWNING FATALITY. Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WESTPORT, December 14. This morning while attempting to swim the Buller river at Tiroroa railway construction camp, S. Baker, married, about 28 years of age was drowned. The search for the body so far has been, unsuccessful. Baker arrived a 'few days ago from Chrischureli on relief work. It is believed his wife is still in Christchurch. SUPPOSED SUICIDE. • STRATFORD, December 14. Airs Lucy Kelly, aged sixty-four, wife of 11. Kelly, a tailor by trade, died this morning under circumstances point ing to suicide through drinking a disinfectant. She left a note stating her intention of taking her life. A FATAL COLLISION. WHANGARIFJI, Dec. 14. As a result of a truck in which ho was motoring through Waipu Gorge, colliding with a cask of bitumen, Fred (Edwards, aged 23, a member of the Waipu Post Office staff, was killed last night. Three others: John Gatlin aged 22, Sydney Bogg aged 22, and Nathan Hart aged 24, all of Waipu, wore admitted to the Wliangarei Hospital early this morning suffering from injjries. FALL FROAT CLIFF. OAMAR-U, Dec. 13. Francis William Andrew, fell one hundred feet from a cliff on the Alarine Parade on Saturday evening. He died from internal injuries four hours later. He was a popular lad with the whole community, and was a prominent scout. An inquest will be held on Monday. CAR COLLIDES WITH EXPRESS. HAAIILTON, Dec. 15. A car driven by Arthur Walter Martin, labourer, Otorohanga, collided with the North-hound Limited at Otorohanga last night. Martin was killed instantly, and the car was smashed. There were no other occupants. Martin was married and had 'three children. He was 28 years old. DIRT TRACK RACING. SOME SPEEDY RIDING. WELLINGTON, December 15. W. Kilminister won. the first division of the handicap dirt track race. His match with Maugham was given up after Alangham had fallen three times in four attempts. Kilminster created a new record for a rolling start in lnun 23 secs. 6secs better than his own previous record, and only one second .slower than the Australian icoord. Kdminstcr made a now record for a standing start of Imin 27 4-5 secs. RIDER FATALLY INJURED. At 3.30 a.m. this morning the Free Ambulance was summoned to the corner of Ynile and Ooutts Streets, Kilbirnie. Air Ron McKenzie, of Karori. a well known dirt 'track rider, while riding bis motor cycle, had collided with a motor car. McKenzie, who had caught the car broadside on, was very severely injured, and was admitted to the hospital suffering from severe head injuries, concussion and shock. His condition gradually grew worse, and, he passed a-.vay at 3 o’clock this afternoon. .. The impact must have been particu larlv severe, as McKenzie’s machine was damaged beyond repair and numerous parts were strewn along the street. McKenzie, who, when the accident occurred, was in his riding apparel, had been competing at the Kilbirnio Stadium earlier in the evening.
