AUCKLAND AIR CRASH
THE INQUEST. (By Telegraph—Per Eress Association.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 13. The inquest on Captain D. E. Harkness and C. F. Goldsbro, victims of the flying boat tragedy, was opened before Mr F. K. Hunt, S.AL, Coroner. v
Dr AAL Gilmour, Pathologist at the Auckland Hospital, reported that, although both bodies bore injuries, death was probably due to drowning There wero superficial burns in the arms. Before death, Harknoss had sustained two large cuts on Die skull and injuries to the face and (ioldsbro had a fractured right leg,; a fractured left ankle, and a fractured nose.
The Coroner will receive a report from Major L. AL Isitt, Officer-in-Charge of Hohsonville Air Base, before tlie inquest resumes. AIR. FORCE INQUIRY. Major Isitt, with Captain S. AA’allingford, of the air base, early t.his morning inspected the ill-fated living boat on Milford Beach and as far as could be ascertained, the controls were effective. These two Air Force officers, with Flying Officer R. J. Copley, Ground Engineer for Auckland Aero Club, will constitute a commission which will hold an inquiry into the fatality oil Monday. This will he distinct from the inquest. THE FUNERAL.
Captain Harknoss will be accorded military honours at his funeral tomorrow afternoon. The service wdl be bold at St. Mary’s Cathedral, and members of the Auckland Aero Club will attend.
Air Golilsbro’s funeral will fake place earlier in the afternoon.
