ANGLO-FRENCH RELATIONS
Mr HENDERSON’S SPEECH. (British Official YVireless). (Received this day at nooil.) RUGBY, December i2. Proposing the toast -of France, at the dinner of the United Association of France, Mr Henderson, Foreign Secretary, referred to the Anglo-French relations. He related how the misunderstanding began first to be cleared away by the Anglo-French Entente. This change had been greatly assisted by the institution of the League otf Nations. All through the early years of the League it was the French and British nations which worked together to build it up. Difference of opinion made no difference to their fundamental co-operation. Speaking of the forthcoming Five Power Naval Conference, Air Henderson recalled the following words used by Mr Ramsay MacDonald when he was Prime Minister in 1924 in a letter to M. Poincare French Prime Minister. “The condition of Europe caji only, feel’ convinced, be remedied by joint action between France and England, undertaken with full sympathy ifor their respective requirements and with a wise regard for the interest of the world at large.” It was for such co-operation we had with France in 1924 that he had now ’prepared*/ The understanding which Mr MacDonald happily reached with the President of the United States, did not mean we. would go to the conference with any rigid or cut and dried proposals.
