HURRICANE DAMAGE. [United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] iSUVA, Dec. 12. With the glass at 28.98, Suva spent an anxious night. The wind at times was of hurricane force, causing great damage to trees and wires, but no town property was damaged. Many Indian huts were levelled. The chief damage was caused by floods at Rewa where they were the largest know n. Police parties and others were busy with, boats yesterday and to-day rescuing over three hundred Natives and Indians. Several Natives towns were Hooded. The residents have been brought to Nausori. Two whaleboats were sent overland bv lorry to Nausori to-dnv to assist in the rescue. Rumours that Indians were drowned are unconfirmed. Three launches and fourteen punts sank. The stock of sugar is safe.
ISLAND DAMAGE. SUVA, December 12. The island of Tavuni reports a loss of green riuts through the storm equal to five per cent. The other damage is slight. The steamer Rani is safe.
