After a meeting of the Liberal Party, in the Commons Mr Lloyd George gave notice of motion for the rejection of the Coal Bill on the grounds that while favouring a reduction in hours and establishment of a coal miners national industrial board, he could not approve of the Bill, because it does not prompt reorganisation of the industry, and does not secure a reduction in costs of production. On the contrary, the .Bill g!vos vested interests in inefficient . pits, and subsidises coal supplied to competing foreign manufactures. and increases in coal prices to British industries and consumers.
