OPENED BY MR H. E. HOLLAND. (By Telegraph—Per press Association.) WESTPORT, Dec. 9. The Seddonville Library, which was recently destroyed by the flood following the earthquake on June 17, was officially reopened by Mr Holland on Saturday afternoon. Congratulatory messages were read from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Mines, the Minister of Education, the Postmaster-General, and the High Commisioner Elect (Hon. T. M. Wilford.) Speeches were delivered by Councillors Neiven and Jas. Simpson, Chairman of the Library Committee, in eulogy of Mr Holland’s successful appeal for books to replace those destroyed by the flood. It was announced between 2000 and 3000 volumes had been donated .by 'various libraries and individual citizens. Among the new books are a set of up-to-date works on coal mining, the gift of the Department. Local residents raised sufficient funds, with a grant of £SO from the Mines Department,, to pay in full for the erection of the new library. The building is to mark Seddonvillc’s aporeciation of Mr Holland’s efforts and the institution has been named the H. E* Holland Public Library. At Saturday’s gathering Mr Holland was presented with a silver mounted walking stick suitably inscribed.
