SANDERS CUP CONTEST

AUCKLAND, Nov. 27

The date of the first race for the Sanders Cup has been fixed for Saturday, January 25th, at Auckland. The races for tin? Ross and Lipton Cups, for boats of the Jellicoo class will he held at the Anniversary Day regatta here on January 29th. Southern .boats are eligible. So far only Wellington and Otago have sent challenges, which close on November 30th.

N.Z.’S ATTRACTIONS FOR AMERICANS.

“People are now looking for new places to visit. I believe that we who live in the Pacific are on the verge of a big tourist invasion.” So said Air George Armitage, secretary of the Hawaii Tourist Bureau, speaking at the Auckland Advertising Club luncheon. “No other country has as many charms in such a small compass' and is as attractive to American tourists as New Zealand,” declared the speaker, who urged that the Dominion should spend more money in advertising its beauties. Last year 5.000,000 tourists went out of the United States to countries overseas, taking with them 800,000,000 dollars. ' They were .now looking for fresh places, and :New Zealand would he one of them.

MISSING A 1 AN FOUND

CUR ISTCHURCH, Nov. 20

Montague Sloan Brettcll. of 42 Tuain street, who has been missing from liis home since Tuesday, November 19th, was found last night at a quarter past seven o”Mock in Dallington.

Front the description published in the daily newspapers,' he was recognised by Mr M. T. Wheeler, an Avonside resident.,who found him walking along Retreat road near the Dallington bridge. His clothes were wet through, and Mr Wheeler accosted him and took him to the Richmond Police Station in his car. The Central Station was communicated with, and the police car was sent out for him. After his arrival at the main police station, he wont -back 'to fibs'-' relatives. ;

It is understood that Brettcll, who was at one time a furniture dealer in Armagh street, has been.in bad health, for soipe months. In September last he was misyng for four days, during which time he had lost his memory completely. Apart from hunger, it is stated that.he is none the worse for the experience.

' When the Minister for Education returns to Wellington a large deputation will place before him the views of the parents and Old Boys’ Association. and the Board of Governors regarding the request of a postponement of the Government’s option for at least fourteen days. AYELLIXGTOX, November 29. The question of taking cycling control away 'from the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, was dismissed by Port Nicholson Amateur Road Macing Club. The attendance was not large and feeling ran high at times. London (Treasurer) moved that the meeting approves of the proposal of New Zealand Union of'- Cyclists for direct affiliation, contending the time had arrived when cyclists should control their own affairs. This was eventually carried with one dissenting vote.

REVENUE INCREASES

WELLINGTON. Nov. 28,

The return of Customs and Excise duties for the quarter ended 30th September shows that the customs revenue totalled £2.399.853. as compared with £2,109.090 for the corresponding period last year. The excise duty totalled £205.281 compared with £17(3.103 for the same quarter of 1928.
