TIMARU CONVENT
JUBILEE CE LET3R ATIONS

TIMARU, November 28
The services for the celebrating oi the Goldeii Jubilee off the Convent of the Sacred Heart at Timaru were helH-to-day. They were attended by tire leaders of the Roman Catholic C hurch in New Zealand, and in addition by a large number of priests from all parts of the Dominion. There are several of those to-day present who had attended the ceremony of the laying of the Convent’s foundation fifty years ago, and notably Archbishop Redwood, of Wellington, who performed that ceremony. A striking tribute was paid to the great work which the Sacred Heart Nuns have accomplished. At the opening off their convent there were fifty pupils, but to-dav the roll numbers two hundred and thirty.
Pontificial High Mass was celebrated in the morning, Bishop Brodie, of Christchurch, being the celebrant. A stirring address was delivered by Archbishop Red wood.
In the afternoon a big open air function was held by the Convent Old Girls’ Association, at which commemorative medals were presented to the ladies who had been present at the laying of the foundation stone. In the evening at the Sacred Heart School, the Old Girls and the St. Anne’s Guild made presentations to the Nuns, in recognition of the work being done at the Convent.
