AUSTRIAN AFFAIRS
POLICY OF CHANCELLOR APPROVED.
COMMENT BY “THE TIMES.”
RUGBY, November 26
In a leading article on the Austrian situation, “The Times” to-day comments favourably on the judicious blend of firmness and tact whereby the Austrian Chancellor, Herr Schober, has persuaded both the Heiniwehr and the Socialist leaders to show a more conciliatory spirit in Party negotiations for the reform of the constitution.
After reviewing the existing si tension “The Times” emphasises the necessity for the disbandment of private armies if Austria is to be spared a tragedy and her prestige abroad maintained. “The Times” regards it as fortunate that the solution of this problem “has been entrusted to an administrator who has shown that he possesses the quality that makes a statesman and who has won the respect and confidence of European diplomacy and finance.”
