MOTOR-CAR EXPORT TRADE.

Representatives of the British section of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, headed by Sir Herbert Austin, met the Minister in Charge of Unemployment (Mr J. H. Thomas), at the House of Commons this afternoon, to discuss with him the needs of the British motor-car industry, with particular reference to the export trade.

It is understood that the manufacturers suggest the abolition of the horse-nower tax, which they state, handicaps British efforts to compete with .foreign manufacturers in the world markets.

The delegation also stressed the necessity for continuing the tariff against foreign cars, and urged the need for some definite statement of Government policy on this point.

FISHING FLEET. COST OF REPLACING NETS. RUGBY, Nov. 26. Mr AY. Adamson, Secretary for Scotland, stated in the House of Commons that 571 boats of the East Anglian herring fleet were involved in the disaster wrought by a storm, in the North Sea on November 11th. Of these, 542 were registered in Scotland. The total number of nets destroyed was approximately 27,800 and the value was about £60,000. The cost of replacing the nets would be £143,000. A fund was being raised in Scotland for the relief of fishermen, It totalled nearly £13,000, and was growing daily. PRINCE OF DENMARK. RECOVERY FROM OPERATION. RUGBY, November 26.
