AUCKLAND WAR MEMORIAL

AUCKLAND, Nov. 28

A groat gathering attondod the upoiling of tho Auckland War Memorial Museum by the Governor-Gen-eral this afternoon. There were two separate ceremonies. The first wa> the consecration ol a cenotaph and court of honour erected in front of the building. This was performed by Archbishop Averill, and tho Cenotaph and court of honour wore tlion accented from the Governor- ieneral bv Mayor Baiklon on behalf of the citizens. The second ceremony was the opening of the building itself, this being performed by the Gover-nor-Genera), to whom a carped mere in a totnra box, ctifVod in Maori style, was presented? : The GovernorGeneral then formally handed over the 'building to the Auckland Institute and Museum, through its President. Mr H. E. Vaile. The two ceremonies were presided over by Mr A. S. Bankart, chairman of the Citizen’s Committee which raised £238,CO3. To-night wreaths were placed on the cenotaph by returned soldiers and others, and to-morrow a Maori ceremony oi "dedicating an ancestial meetiiu'" house of the Haurnki tribes, named Hot.unui, takes place. A flood-lighting system to illuminate the (building by night is to fie presented by the Auckland Electric Power Board.
