LABOUR MAN’S COMMENT
AUCKLAND, November 26
Commenting on the decision ol the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Coates) not to accept the £IOO Parliamentary, bonus, Mr W. E. Parry M.P., said that any member could please liim.sel 1 in this matter, but it did seem extraordinary that the leader of the Reform Party should make such an announcement immediately bdfore the Mutt byelection.
“It looks to me suspiciously like £IOO worth of political advertising” said -Mr Parry. “It is grossly inconsistent for Mr Coates to adopt this attitude, because when he was Prime Minister be favoured additional remuneration for members. We all understood that members of the three parties were unanimously in favour of extra payment to members MT Harris having reported that Reform was in favour, Mr Smith reporting on behalf of the United Party, while I ascertained the Labour attitude.
“Tt was a great surprise to bear Mr Wright and Mr Coates object when the ClOn bonus was brought forward. Mr Wright, too, is inconsistent for is it not a fact that he drew £2OO house allowance annually for three years when Minister of Education despite the fact that he was living in his own home ?”
