In conversaton with a “News” reporter the Hon |\ A. de la Pcrrelle stated that the amount' availabe for loans from, the Advances Office when the Government took office was £4*30,000, and applications pending numbered 3971, for a total amount of £4,1(58,29). Loans authorised to October 31 this year numbered 7028, and the amount £7,114,890. Leans actually paid numbered 5161, and the amount -/•j.418,022. '

A MODEL IN SOAP. NAPIER, November 26

The Napier 30,000 Club sought permission to conduct an art union with a Maori head in gold as the first prize. The Department refused permission. Mr W. E. Witli financial assistance they would be enabled to improve their farms and increase their production.

AN UNUSUAL ACCIDENT

TE ARCH A, ( Nov. 28

When a thunderstorm broke yesterday afternoon Tony Kriskovich, a Dalniation, was crossing a paddock. He had barely reached a galvanised iron shelter shed under the Thames Po-er Board overhead wires, when he was struck by lightning, which ran down his. right side, his clothes were burnt off and bis skin painfully blistered. After treatment he was able to return to bis home.
