NEW ARMOUR PLATE
A VALUABLE DISCOVERY. EFFECT ON ARMAMENTS. [United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] (Received this day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, November 27. o'The “ Daily Telegraph ” military correspondent says there is an eternal duel between armbhr and projectile. Recent British research resulted in a new type of armour plate. This is so much harder in proportion to its weight that it will double the resistance to projectiles and thus give armoured protection a lead which tlie projectile will find it hard to overtake. The new armour plate will have a big influence on warship design and mechanisation of armies. Hitherto fourteen millimetres of armour was required to keep out the ordinary armour piercing bullet, but the new specially hardened armour plate will permit fast,' light armoured tanks, which can dodge and outflank anti-tank guns and also greatly save the cost.
