N.Z. POLITICAL ASSOCIATION

FIRST MEETING OF MEMBERS

WELLINGTON, Nov. 22

The first nib sting of members of the New Zealand Political Association was held on Wednesday in the Dominion Farmers’ Institute. The president (Mr Edwin Salmon) occupied the chair.

In the course of his address the president referred to the success achieved by the Association since its inauguration in August last, the membership already being extremely satisfactory and rapidly increasing. The object of the Association was not to form n new party, but to use its influence to induce citizens of high character and attainment to offer themselves as candidates for Parlia. meat. It was generally admitted that many of the present members of Parliament were well fitted fm the position. Sonic, however, could advantageously be replaced by men in our midst to-day possessing wide knowledge and great ability. It was extremely gratifying to report that an unusually large number of women had been enrolled as members. Wellington so far had been the onlj centre in which efforts had been made to enrol members, but later it was intended to form branches in the three other centres, with sub-branches in various electorates. It was a stimulating fact that such a large membership had been secured and that the members expressed voluntarily their interest and enthusiasm with the objects of the Association. The president concluded his remarks by asking members to further asssit and add to the membership, thereby swelling the numbers until tho Association becomes a vital force. Short and interesting add roses were delivered and valuable suggestions offered by several members.
