SOLICITORS STRUCK OFF.

SYDNEY, November 21
The Full Court to-day struck off the roll two solicitors who were adjudged guilty of misappropriation of clients’ money, namely, John Vincent Gillaher and Norman Griffin.
The Government is preparing legislation to cover this class off offence by providing for periodical official audits of solicitors’ trust funds.
SOLID TARIFF INCREASE,
SYDNEY, Nov. 22.
The Federal Government’s new tariff duties have dealt a staggering blow to British industries and will necessarily raise the cost of living in Australia whisky, brandy, rum, gin and other spirits having been increased by eight shillings per gallon. There are very heavy duty increases imposed on imported cigarettes and cigars, also felts, furs, white lead,- and varnishes. The duty on timber for box-making has been increased seven shillings per hundred feet super, and dressed timber eight siblings. , Prohibitive duties are imposed on imported socks and stockings. The duties in some cases are doubled, the foreign rate on matches being doubled. The “Sun” newspaper says: “This extra twi millions per year extorted by Mr Theodore by way of the new taxation represents a tax of five per cent, on forty millions of our industrial income, and is bound to result in additional unemployment. N.S.W. COAL CRISIS. SYDNEY, November 22. There lias been no fresh development in the coal dispute. All parties are now hoping for the, best from the week-end conference called by Prime Minister Scullin at Canberra. It is reported that a number off additional men are prepared to sign on at Rothbury colliery.
