CAUGHT NAPPING
BY BUDGET /SPEECH. (Australian Press Association) SYDNEY, Nov.' 22. j ■ ; The Federal Treasurer, Mr Theodore, presented the Budget speech without warning- at 10.28 o’clock last night, when the business of the House was proceeding drowsily to what everyone supposed would be an early close of ■the sitting. The press was not supplied with details of the Budget beforehand, as has been the practice in the past, and telegraph officers bad gone off. The result was a hectic time rounding up telegraphists from their homes, while the pressmen feverishly ■prepared ...messages from the printed (copies of the Budget, which were provided for them after the speech of the Treasurer had begun. To crown all, a pneumatic chute from the gallery to the Telegraph Office jammed, causing n delay. The Budget taxes are hardly any more popular among the business men than was their announcer, Mr Theodore, among the Parliamentary pressmen.
