A complaint of damage done to fai'in crops by paradise duck was before tbe Council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society lust night. Air R. A. Blackley, of Castle Hill, made the complaint. It was resolved that a cony, of Mr Blackley’s letter be forwarded to Sir Thomas Mackenzie, ALU-G;., the Hon. Mr Thompson, M.L.Q., .to the Society for the Protection of Native Birds, and to the Department of Internal Affairs.
“A copy should be sent, to every member of Parliament who favoured protection of these birds,’’ said a member. General agreement was expressed with that sentiment.
Lust year eight acres of.swedes had been sown, said Air Blackley. In two weeks tbe leaves bad been picked off. Then tbe seed bulbs bad been attacked and then the soft turnips in the field. The frosts had done the rest. The birds had increased until now there was a flock in the vicinity numbering from 500 to COO ducks. He protested, .and asked for any assistance the Society could give.
