INTERESTING RELIC

FOUND IN. GOVERNMENT DISPATCHES.

WELLINGTON, Nov. 21

Among New Zealand Government dispatches there was found, some time ago., an interesting and valuable historical document written by Admiral McClure, on board H.M.S. Investigation in the Bay of Mercy, Polar Sea, on April 10, 1855. So far as is known the letter has never been published. McClure was commander of the expedition sent in search for Franklin fronp 1850 to 1853. McClure discovered a' northward passage but had to abahdon the ship in polar ice in 1854..::; . : It is not know c jii!::liow the letter came to New Zealand, 'nor how it came' to find .a place among special despatches. It is addressed to “My Dear John,” and .Was probably a private letter (to a son. of General John Le; Mesurier,; Governor of Alderney, an old. comrade of McClure’s father and McClure’s godfather and guardiau. The letter deals with the expedition’s doings, and refers the recipient to the Admiralty despatch if he wishes further particulars.
