HARBOUR COLLISION

A JUDGE’S VIEWS

(Australian Press Association)

SYDNEY, Nov. 21

The Admiralty Court, before which Sydney Ferries are claiming £30,000 damages from the Union Steamship Coy., expressed its view of the cause of the collision between the Tahiti and Greycliffe, two years ago. Justice H'alse Rogers, giving his findings on the facts as distinct from ...e law, said the action of the Tahiti created a danger teone. No harm would have resulted, had the Greycliffe not turned, but she did turn, and the pilot of the Tahiti failed to grasp the situation immediately. Then there was no escape. The Tahiti, aware of the presence of the Greycliffe on the starboard bow. made two slight alterations of course to port, to keep the Grey■liffe at an angle of safety. If the Greycliffe had maintained her course, then there would have been no collision. The Greycliffe changed her course without any observation of the master, as to whether his altered course would bring him across the course of any other vessel.
