Obituary.—W„ F. Lawry, formerly Chief Inspector m Australia, of New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Coy. Ltd. with which he was associated for fifty years. Hitherto he was manager of the Auckland branch. Aetat 78. He leaves a widow and three sons.

N.S.W. CHILD, ENDOWMENT,
SYDNEY, Nov. 19,
The Premier, Mr Bavin, has arpounc ed that the Cabinet has decided to scrap the Child Endowment scheme en tirely, and substitute a basic, wage on a flat rate principle, . with additional provision for all children after the first child. The present method of meeting the financial burden for children would be altered, which would mean that the existing tax - upon industry y would be lifted. 1
