STOCK SLAUGHTERED
ANNUAL RETURNS

WELLINGTON, Nov. 20
: At the quarterly ' meeting of the Board of Agriculture the report of the Director of ..Livestock Division of the Department!,of Agriculture,; indicated that the number of cattle slaughtered at meat export works for the twelve months ended 13th., September last was 124,550, a decrease of 97,007 head as compared with the preceding 12 months for the same period. The number of calves slaughtered was 271.885, an increase of 08,344. , In the case of sheep the figures for ti.e North ‘lsland showed a decrease of u 33,470, but in the South Island there was an increase of 76,480. ; The total-numbers killed were: North Island 1,435,248, South. Island 620,320. The number of lambs killed was 6,009,875. Here again there was a decrease, of 155.130 in North Island and aji increase, of -1 $0,333 in the South Island.
Killings of swine showed an increase in each Island, 259, 06ij head being dealt with in the North Island and 32,305 in the South-Island. ■ The number of condemnations showed a substantial decrease in all classes of stock except swine, The actual figures for the period- under review were: Cattle 4,510, calves 7,909, sheep 11,608, lambs 2,804, swine 5,842. . •
