CHINCHILLA RABBIT
DECREASING DEMAND FOR SKINS.
By Telegraph—Per Press Association.!
WELLINGTON. Nov. 20,
In a recent report to the Government concerning the state of the market for Chinchilla rabbit skins, states the Minister of Agriculture. (Hon. G. Forbes), the High Commissioner advised there had been a considerable falling off in the demand. It appears that the vogue for Chinchilla furs was merely a passing phase of fashion and unless a fashionable demand is made, prices for the skins which at one time reached His per skin are likely to go still lower with a decreasing demand. Available. supplies appear to he large and one London firm alone had for sale towards the end of October some thirty thousand Canadian Chinchilla skins. At the time the High Commissioner's report was prepared (October). the rates for skins ranged from one shilling to six shillings each, oillv a few of the best selected, mailing six shillings.
