WAR PREDICTED
TROTSKY’S VIEW
[United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.)
CONSTANTINOPLE, Nov. 18
“War between Britain and the United States will not be prevented by any Anglo-American naval agreement,” said Al. Trotsky, in an interview in his exile at Prinkipo Island, in the Sea of Mannum, where Trotsky is nick-named “Moonlight” by the fishermen., owing to his habit of fishing at midnight.
He continued: “The United States’ slogan of the freedom of the seas implies the restrict.on of the British use of naval bases, as the United States will gradually take from her rival, both trade and finance. The war will not overlook the British bases. It would be wrong to assume that antagonism between Britain and Anieri/i will' lead directly t*o war, which is far too grave a business for both nations. Parity in naval strength between Britain and America means actual enormous inequality of nations in favour of America, owing to her technical and economic superiority.. The outcome of the coming war will depend on how effectively the opposing countries can provide new ships, guns, soldiers and sailors, while actually under fire. The Hoover-MacDonakl negotiations are merely the rationalisation of preparedness.”
